Pre‐procedural condiderations
The area for preparation should have been assessed for its suitability for mAb preparation. It should meet the following criteria (NHS PQAC [234]):
- It should be a clearly defined, well‐ventilated preparation area of a suitable size to accommodate the expected level of activity.
- Adequate bench space should be available to allow segregation of activities during preparation.
- It should be a separate clinical room rather than a thoroughfare.
- Surfaces must be easily cleaned and resistant to any cleaning products used.
Adequate information should be provided to staff, usually in the form of standard operating procedures and an organizational policy, on the appropriate risk assessment of mAbs, cleaning of clinical areas, management of spillages, and preparation, management and labelling of mAbs. Adequate training on mAb preparation should also be provided by expert staff, such as aseptic teams in pharmacy departments where these are available (NHS PQAC [234]).
