Choice of vein
The basilic vein is the vein of choice due to its larger size, straighter course for catheter advancement and higher haemodilution capability (Moureau and Chopra [330], Perucca [369], Weinstein and Hagle [465]). The cephalic and median cubital veins are the second and third choices, respectively (Gorski et al. [181]).
