Pre‐procedural considerations
Consulting the appropriate manufacturer's representative for training is essential as application and approaches vary between different manufacturers. There are specific types of foams and gauze dressings that should be used in undermined wounds, tunnels and sinus tracts. If the patient is discharged into the community with NPWT, consideration should be given to the management of the dressings as well as the patient's mobility, risk of falls and psychological ability to cope with the therapy (Milne [73]).
Equipment
All equipment used should conform to the manufacturer's recommendations for the relevant system (KCI [58]).
