Transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) prostate biopsy
Definition
A transrectal ultrasound and prostate biopsy (TRUS Bx) uses an ultrasound probe to visualize the prostate. Once the prostate can be seen, a fine biopsy needle is passed down a probe guide to take small tissue samples from the prostate. The number of tissue samples taken ranges from 2 to 12 depending on local policy and degree of clarification required (Turner et al. [164]).
