Complications
Toxicities associated with the administration of aerosolized ribavirin include bronchospasm, cough, claustrophobia, nausea, rash, reduced pulmonary function, mucus plugging and conjunctival irritation (Shah and Chemaly [104]).
There is a potential risk that ribavirin is teratogenic and mutagenic so patients and staff should be made aware of the risks (Donovan et al. [34]).
Intravenous ribavirin has been associated with haemolysis, leucopenia and hyperbilirubinaemia, and oral ribavirin has been associated with anaemia and nausea (Shah and Chemaly [104]).
