Post‐procedural considerations
Immediate care
The literature recommends that the patient should be turned regularly following instillation of the drug to facilitate its complete distribution over the pleural surfaces. The rationale for such turning is based on clinical observation and there is a lack of research comparing patients who are turned with those who are not.
Ongoing care
Local pleural pain and inflammation can last for 24–48 hours after instillation. Good symptom management should focus upon emesis control, adequate analgesia and emotional support and chest tube security to ensure patient comfort (Wilkes [268]).
