Procedure

ActionRationale

  1. 1.
The switchboard must be told to inform the medical physics department as soon as possible after alerting the emergency resuscitation team.
So that the medical physics department can advise on radiation protection as soon as possible (DH [15], C).
  2. 2.
Start resuscitation as per UKRC guidelines. All areas must be supplied with an Ambu‐bag for this purpose.
Mouth‐to‐mouth contact could result in contamination of the resuscitator (DH [15], C).
  3. 3.
Overshoes, gloves and apron or gowns must be put on as soon as is practicably possible.
To minimize personal contamination (DH [15], C; PHE [58], C).
  4. 4.
All emergency equipment must be monitored and decontaminated as necessary before being returned to general use.
To prevent contaminated equipment leaving the controlled area (DH [15], C).
