Intraoral sealed sources
Pre‐procedural considerations
All patients receiving this treatment will have a dental assessment by an oral surgeon and any issues around dental caries, mouth infections and possible dental extractions will be addressed prior to the treatment because of the possible alteration of blood supply being impaired by treatment.
The patient is usually admitted 24 hours before the implant, during which time the nature of the procedure and the implications of having a radioactive source should be explained to them. The patient is nursed in a single controlled room away from other patients as per radiation protection guidance to keep exposure to staff and other patients and visitors as low as reasonably possible (ALARP). Only staff and visitors authorized to enter the controlled area should go into the room, and written arrangements for entering the room should be contained within the local rules displayed at the door of the room.
