Compression therapy in the management of lymphoedema
Overview
This section describes the management of lymphoedema using compression therapy. Lymphoedema can develop because of treatment for cancer when lymph nodes have been surgically removed or irradiated. It can also occur when cancer obstructs lymph drainage routes. Lymphoedema is a chronic, life‐long condition, therefore early identification and treatment is crucial. After initial patient education and the development of an agreed treatment plan to reduce and control the swelling, patients are encouraged to self‐manage their condition with support when required.
