Non‐pharmacological management of breathlessness

This section will discuss the symptom of breathlessness in people with cancer and will outline some evidence‐based non‐pharmacological approaches that may help in the management of this symptom. It is often a difficult symptom to manage effectively and management should be modified frequently in response to changes in the person and their progress. The aims of management are to reduce the distress of breathlessness and support people to feel more in control of their breathing so they can be as independent and active as possible.
This section will not outline the pathophysiology of the causes of breathlessness or the pharmacological management of breathlessness.
