Principles of care
The principles of non‐pharmacological management address any underlying causes of breathlessness, identifying the breathing, thinking and functioning components. It is important that all reversible causes for breathlessness have been ruled out or treated appropriately before trialling these procedures. Carer training and support is integral to the success of these procedures and consideration should be given as to how this may be best achieved before starting.
